Tasty Catering is dedicated to serving the business world of the greater Chicagoland area, and for the last 21 years, we have done just that. However, we aren't just serving the businesses of Chicago, we're serving everyone and everything. It's called corporate responsibility, and the more we put in it, the more we all get out. And who doesn't want to get more out of our community? Exactly.
People and Culture
Enjoying showing up to work everyday says a whole lot about the people you spend your time with. Tasty Catering is no exception. The atmosphere is down to earth and friendly. Heck, it's like a second home to most of us. We're a family business that literally has extended family one desk over.
Let's face it, when you work with people you like, well, work just doesn't seem like work. It makes it easy to create and sustain a welcoming culture, and it's even easier to treat our customers with care and respect.
Meet the Tasty team members whose award-winning culture has helped make Tasty Catering a Top Small Workplace as Awarded by Inc. Magazine and Winning Workplaces, Best Place to Work in Illinois for 4 years running and Crain's Chicago Best Place to Work 2010.
Community
Work hard, play hard. We're all in this one together, folks. It's a team sport, and we're all out there on the field. It's our strong belief that the more we put into our community, the more everyone will benefit, so we strive to be an active member of the community. Doing volunteer work, helping the youth, assisting local businesses…you name it, we're part of it.
Community Organizations We are proud members of the Elk Grove and Mount Prospect Chambers of Commerce as well the Greater O'Hare and Schaumburg Business Associations. In addition to aiding the professional side, we also encourage character as members of the Character Counts Coalition of Elk Grove, a program that partners with community groups such as schools, government, fire and police departments, libraries, park districts, businesses and other community organizations to spread values and good character. For more information about this, please visit their web site.
High School Programs
Tasty Catering is particularly involved in the success of local high schools. After all, these students will be running our communities pretty soon, right? Why not give them a boost! In the last 4 years, we have hosted over 20 field trips and 400 students from 10 different high schools. These field trips allow participants to tour the kitchen, learn how to cook and prepare a dish, as well as a question and answer session over a TC lunch with chefs and various team members. Many of the students who visit are interested in careers in the event planning or catering industries, and in some cases, these students have found employment within our team!
In addition to academic aid, Tasty Catering has also worked with several high school athletic teams to help fund their programs. Athletics help students develop qualities such as teamwork, leadership, time management and dedication…some pretty important qualities indeed! What better way to continue to build strong character in the community.
Over the past four years, we have helped the four teams raise over $8500 for their programs. We do this by catering an event and hiring the players as workers. The players earn an hourly salary for their time, and on top of that, we double what each player earns and give that extra money straight to their program.
Several of our employees have taken independent initiatives in benefiting the community as well. Some of these include public speaking at schools and community centers, such as District 214 Career Night, Buffalo Grove Career Day, Schaumburg High School and Grove Junior High.
Volunteer Work
Each year, we look for ways to help the community as a team. For the past three years, we have teamed up with Friends of the Park to clean up Busse Woods, a forest preserve located in our backyard and a home for thousands of happy picnic goers. Each spring and fall season, Tasty Catering gathers a team together to help clear the woods of Buckthorn, an invasive species that has been killing native plants and altering the biodiversity necessary to sustain wildlife. We're not giving this place up without a fight! For Earth Day 2009 and 2010 we worked with several dedicated clients to pick up garbage, mulch, pull garlic mustard and clear buckthorn! After the event all volunteers were treated to a Tasty picnic as a reward for all of their hard work. If you are ever interested in volunteering alongside the Tasty team, please contact Jamie Pritscher.
Environment
Remember when we said that we aren't just serving the business people of Chicago? Well, we meant it. With the help of our employee-led TC Green Team, we have made tremendous strides in reducing our carbon footprint so that we all can breathe a little easier. Being green is a very important part of our work culture, so we have implemented several programs and initiatives that cut down on waste and promote a healthy, sustainable future for all.
