As we like to say at Tasty Catering, “It all started with a hot dog.” And if you follow the trail of hot dogs, you’ll learn all about how the Tasty Dawg hot dog stand turned into a powerhouse catering company with an award-winning, values-driven culture dedicated to transparency, strong ethics and open-book management.
These items have led our company to attract some of the brightest entrepreneurs and retained high-performing talent alike. We wouldn’t be where we are today without our wonderful clients, strategic partners, vendors and team of advisors.
To our clients, thank you for letting our team be a part of your important milestones, from product launches to weddings and employee appreciation events.
To our strategic partners and vendors, it’s been a blast working on events with you all, and we thank you for being consummate professionals. It’s nice to have you all by our side.
To our team of advisors, thank you for helping guide us through the past 30 years and getting us to this anniversary.
Truly, we couldn’t be prouder to share this important moment in our company’s history with the entire Tasty family—and everyone in Chicagoland who has supported our mission of bringing people together over delicious food for the last 30 years. Thank you and cheers!
Let’s rewind to where it all began in 1989.
Tasty Catering is born!
The Walter brothers—Tom, Larry and Kevin—launch their catering division inside Tasty Dawg, an Elk Grove Village fast food restaurant. Tasty Catering is born!
New building on Tonne
After 10 years of catering, we outgrew Tasty Dawg and were large enough to move into a 5,000-square-foot building specifically dedicated to catering on Tonne Road in Elk Grove Village.
New and current home
Not long after our first standalone building, we moved into a roomy 25,000-square-foot facility on Touhy Ave. in the Elk Grove Village Business Park. The move to this new building also marked the closing of all Tasty Dawg locations as the team now focused solely on the catering operation.
Tasty undergoes a cultural makeover inspired by Jim Collins’ book Good to Great. This new culture meant the Walter brothers moved away from their command and control style to an employee-generated culture. This cultural revolution is led by Tasty employees Tim Walter and Jamie Pritscher, the CFO and director of logistics at the time.
Tim Walter presents a specialty foods start-up to father Tom Walter. T.F. Processors, a wholesale contract manufacturer of baked goods, is created.
Seeing a demand from catering clients for corporate gifts, Tasty helps to fund and start That’s Caring, a socially responsible gift box company. Each time you give a That’s Caring gift, you help feed children in need in communities across the US through Feeding America weekend bag programs.
Long-time employees and family members Eugene, Francisco, Eduardo and MariCarmen launched a trucking venture called Rios Ventures. Rios Ventures rents trucks back to Tasty Catering during peak seasons.
